And over the years other Pennsylvania colleges have been touched by the words of Pulitzer prize winners, Oscar winners, famous comedians and rock and roll legends.
Here is a look at some memorable commencement speeches at Pennsylvania universities—and one that gained fame for never actually being delivered.
Bono -- University of Pennsylvania, 2004. The U2 front man and Debt AIDS Trade Africa founderat the University of Pennsylvania back in 2004. Proving that he was more than just a "rock star with a cause," his speech was empowering-- and funny (yes, he touched on the subject of rock star mullets).
Bill Cosby -- Temple University, 2010. He's a commencement speech veteran, delivering dozens of commencement addresses everywhere from UNC Pembroke to Ohio State University. His 2007grads was indeed memorable (he addressed the students as "nerds"), but he's a Philly native through and through, so Cosby's humor-ladenat Temple University holds a special place in Pennsylvanians' hearts.
Maya Angelou -- Lehigh University, 2005. The famed poet and bestselling authorat Lehigh University's 137th commencement ceremony in Bethlehem, Pa back in 2005, telling the grads about the world they are inheriting: "I know that there is hope and you are it."
Jodie Foster -- University of Pennsylvania, 2006. The Oscar winner may have graduated from rival Ivy League college Yale, but
